On August 21, 2008 Avalon turned eight-months-old. She is still a smiley, happy baby that brings us a lot of joy. When she does get fussy it makes me crazy because it is not her usual personality. When she is not napping, which still happens three times per day, she is rolling around the floor exploring all of Waylon's toys. She rolls everywhere and is getting pretty fast. The big news was that about a week before her eight month birthday she started to "ooch." It was definitley not crawling, and cannot really be called scootching, thus I will term it ooching. She would do these crazy half rolls, with an overhand crawl swim move, followed by a little foot pushing. Its not pretty, but she does move herself forward--although slowly. Since her ooching began she has been getting better, but its still a very slow process, which she often gives up on unless her prey is too good to be true--like a pacifier. I am hoping by next month she will be doing a full army crawl, or at least something more ladylike than ooching.
As for eating and growing, Avalon is still our little "chunka munka" with rolls all over. However, she is actually pretty small, and just moved into 6-9 month clothes. Although she is big enough for the big girl car seat, which she moved into this past weekend. She has just started to like solid foods, and in the past week she finally stated opening wide when the spoon is coming towards her. She is expanding her foods to all sorts of vegetables and even eats veggie puffs, or at least plays with and occasionally gums them. Avalon just went down to four milk feedings per day, and just today I only had to pump once at work (hallelujah!).
On the downside, Avalon is starting to have more and more stranger anxiety and also has separation anxiety when mom and dad leave the room. As sweet as it is to be able to make her laugh and smile just by coming towards her, its hard when you cant step out of the room without making her burst into tears. So far she isn't too bad, but I know it will likely get worse before it gets better. In other developmental news, Avalon is doing her own version of clapping, which is usually accompanied by laughing and smiling while she watches Waylon play.
