Baby Proofing

About two weeks ago Waylon's "curiosity" became too much for us and we had to call in a professional baby proofing company--Boo Boo Busters. I remember several years ago hearing a co-worker talk about paying someone to baby proof, which I thought was totally bourgeois. After trying to dog-proof several cabinets, I could not imagine doing our entire house. I have to say, it was worth every penny. My new best friend, Jeff, came in and baby proofed every cabinet, toilet, and even some doors and the bathtub in less than two hours. I have no doubt it would have taken several days and many fights to get it done ourselves. I am confident that whatever we spent for Jeff was saved in future marital counseling costs. However, its hard to believe that I asked someone to come in and turn my home into a maze of locks and latches that drive me bonkers. If I think I'm bummed, you can imagine poor Waylon. He was just getting the hang of opening drawers filled with sharp objects when Jeff came and ruined his fun.
The first night after "the change." Waylon is not stoked that he can no longer plunder in our kitched drawers.
He was not satisfied with trying one drawer, he had to try all of them to see if he could break into at least one.
Sorry bubba, the toilet is no longer your personal splashing pond.
Ah Ha! He is very excited to find one part of the house that's not baby proofed

Recent Visitors

We always love visitors, and so far this year we've had quite a few...

MEETING QUAN TUSH

On MLK Jr. weekend, Kathy (Quan) Dwyer came with Denise to visit and meet Waylon. Kathy was my coxswain on the crew team at UCSB, however she refrained from ordering Waylon around like she used to boss her boat around (kidding). Their visit was a great surprise, and I think Waylon really enjoyed watching Denise (the marine biologist) inspect his aquarium tunnel.

TINA AND DOUG ENJOY SAN CLEMENTE
Also on MLK jr. weekend, great aunt Tina and cousin Doug came for a visit to get out of the super cold weather in Lake Arrowhead, which was a perfect excuse to enjoy the San Clemente pier and the best mexican food in town.

Waylon bundles up on the pier as the sun sets.
Its sunsets like these that remind me why we pay to live in Southern California and why I cant imagine ever living in Michigan again.
JAMISON COMES TO PLAY
Waylon's oldest friend, Jamison, came by for a spin on Waylon's walker, which Waylon didn't seem to want to share. The boys met when they were just a few days old while Kerri (Jamison's mom) and I were at the lactation consultant together--a definite bonding experience.

Tunnel o' Fun

Waylon seems to enjoy his tunnel so that he can hide away from mom and dad. I thought that wasn't supposed to happen until he was a teenager.

2007 Updates

After all of the holiday updates, I took a blog-hiatus, but now I am back with lots of updates that aren't earth shattering, but hopefully will keep you entertained while you eat lunch at your desk.
EATING
Since Waylon started eating table foods, dinnertime has become an assault of the senses--taste, touch, smell & hearing (if you count the food that ends up in his ears). Of course the sense that is most blown away is my sight when he is all done. Luckily, the beagles really help with clean up after these meals.
READING
This picture was supposed to be all about how Waylon loves to pull out ALL of his books and "read" them--sometimes upside down and the wrong way. However, if you expand this picture you'll see that Waylon looks like he is about to be detained by child services. He's got a bruise on his forehead (have no idea where it came from) and looks like he's lived in those PJ's for days.

More reading...sans the bruise

Waylon abandons the books to try and attack my camera

PIG NOSE
Not sure how to fit this picture into the group, but the title explains everything. I might also call this photo, "The grass is always greener"

New Year, New Photo Shoot

What better way to start the new year than with a photo shoot. Aaron was away for several days for a trip to Houston to visit college friends followed by a few days of business. Here is how Waylon and I entertained ourselves for one of our afternoons alone...

Since Christmas our house looks like a Toys R Us outlet, and Waylon sometimes gets ADD going from toy to toy
Unlike our real dogs, Waylon's new puppy does not run away when he charges at him. I think Waylon wishes that Thelma and Louise were also made of plastic so he could chew on their ears and grab their eyes to his hearts content
A brief pause to consider which toy to try to jam in his mouth next
Waylon chews on the funny toy which lets him hear daddy's voice Waylon eyes me warily as he continues to terrorize the phone

Ride 'em Cowboy--video

A still picture of Waylon on his new rocking horse for those with video "challenged" computers.

Assisted Steps--video

Just in case you cant see the video, here is a picture of Waylon with his new walker.

Waylon is able to walk using a "walker." Here he is just after Christmas trying out his newest walker from grandma and grandpa Davis:

The Norths from the North

Simon, Karin, and Lachlan North came down from the Bay Area for a visit with Denise Weisman in Encinitas, and on Friday (12/29) they all came up to San Clemente for a visit. Amy Kelly came to join the fun, making it a mini-UCSB crew team reunion. It was great to see everyone, and especially to meet Lachlan (17 months), who is super active and very sweet. Waylon definitely enjoyed watching a big boy at play, and Lachlan was very sweet about sharing with Waylon (who wasn't always so sweet about sharing with Lachlan).

Waylon tries to push Lachlan around
The boys enjoy reading time with Amy and Karin
Simon supervises, and tries valiantly to make sure the boys share the toys
Lachlan loved the swing, and Waylon loved watching Lachlan

Last Photo Shoot of 2006

During a recent outing when the North family and Denise came for a visit (see post above), I got a few good pictures of Waylon that I just had to share. Although these were a day early, these are the only "new years" pictures we have. The actual new years eve was uneventful with an early bedtime for Waylon and his parents.

Clearly, Waylon lives up to his title of "Chick Magnet"
The sand inspector
"I want you!" The best part of this photo is that you can walk to different places in the room and Waylon will follow you.
