Carnival at Early Explorations

On July 1, the kids' school had a beginning of summer carnival, which was very sweet and "homey." Much like this summer, the evening was very cool and overcast, but fun was had by all! They even had pony rides, which Waylon loved (especially walking the horse), but Avalon wanted nothing to do with the ponies. Everyone loved all of the food and games, including a cake walk and face painting. The event reminded me of Halloween carnivals at Tumbleweed Elementary (yes, my school was called Tumbleweed--I was a proud Tumbleweed Tornado).

Riding the pony (midget horse) is fun, but...
Leading the horse around the parking lot is even better!

Waylon and one of his two best buddies, Ryan. Waylon moved to the Desert Room (from the Jungle Room with Ryan) and the two are now separated. However, Waylon is doing well with the change, and seems to really enjoy the structure in his new, "older" room. The boys still have a lot of fun together on the playground.

Avalon's favorite--face painting!!! We were not allowed to wash her face that night, and she was very sad when it all wore off.

Father's Day 2010

The One Kid Mini Vacation

Last year the idea of the "staycation" swept the Nation, but I have something even more cutting edge--the One Kid Mini Vacation ("OKMV"). Lets face it, its hard to find someone safe, dependable, and affordable to watch both of your kids. However, its not so difficult to find someone relatively safe and willing to watch just one kid--likely your older, heartier offspring--for one evening. Take it from me, one kid is a serious vacation!

Two weeks ago Waylon stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Davis for the evening. Although Avalon is more than a handful these day, it was SO MUCH EASIER! When one human is screaming, crying, whining, begging to be held, or just insisting on being fed it is somehow tolerable. Two is just insanity. Watching just Avalon, Aaron and I had at least one legitimate conversation and were able to enjoy a relative evening of peace--a definite mini vacation.

I really need to do a separate post about Avalon's "new" front teeth. Lets just say that double root canal + capped teeth = a very different look.
Two kids throwing themselves off the couch makes me crazy, but having one jump all over the furniture was actually cute.

Random School Day

I was feeling guilty for not taking more photos lately so we had an impromptu photo session before school one day. Let just say that my children are not exactly fashion plates at school.

Disturbing Playtime

I am not sure how this playtime evolved, but on a recent Sunday morning both of our kids were "beating" each other via Wii boxing. They were going nuts punching and flailing about. It was actually impressive in a Neanderthal kind of way. Its not a regular past time, but definitely a life saver when the kids just need to throw some punches!

Family Fun in June

In June we had several families over for a big play date. It was lots of fun, but a little bit of a bummer since it was too cold for the slip n slide. The dads watched World Cup while the moms hung out and chatted. The kids were very entertained with food and the playhouse. The day ended with all of the kids chasing Aaron with water guns.
