Catalina Trip Numero Dos

Another weekend in the summer...another Catalina trip...

Chilling watching a movie on the Catalina Express boat. Actually, this photo is misleading. The kids chilled for about 5 minutes, and I just happened to photograph that moment. Waylon can sit calmly watching a movie, but Little Miss Thing is all over the place, which is lots of fun on a moving boat.
Kayak fun!
Avalon joined the crew.
Fun in the dock cart. Apparently having mom pull you around like a horse pulling a cart is fun for my kids.
Waylon kept marching up to the top of the very tall slide with his binoculars, and would announce that he was keeping watch in the Coast Guard tower.

Fun with the Hammond kids.
Waylon and I hiked from FJYC into "town." I took some photos along the way.
Waylon with the "town" of Two Harbors in the background.
Waylon and I with Isthmus Harbor on the left and Two Harbors on the right.
Playground time.
We were going to take our boat to Emerald Bay, but when I realized how far it was (and how bumpy the water was), we opted for lunch while we anchored in a small harbor just a little way from FJYC. The kids loved watching daddy wrestle with the anchor. As always, Waylon is in heaven on the boat.
Why does he squeeze her head like that in every photo?

In the 1950's (I think) they brought buffalo to Catalina Island while filming a Western movie. I have always heard that there are real buffallo roaming the interior of the Island. Apparently one got loose and likes to roam near town. His name is Wilson and he is standing with Catalina Harbor in the background. This is about 300 yards from the playground.

It was actually very weird to be so close to a real buffalo that is loose. They are surprisingly big, and we didn't let the kids get too close.
Rock decorating with the FJYC kids.
Bedtime reading in the fancy cabin.

A Visit with Alexis

Baby Alexis came to visit in July, and she was nice enough to bring her mommy, Wendy, who happens to be my roommate from law school. In preparation we cleaned off the exersaucer and were talking about Alexis' upcoming visit. The kids were so excited they couldn't stand it. You would have thought Mickey Mouse was coming they were so excited! Avalon and Waylon both tried hard to keep Alexis happy, and talked about her constantly after the visit. It was adorable, and so was Alexis! She is such a happy baby! Wendy and Eric are very lucky to have such an easygoing, sweet little girl.

Even though they had not met Alexis before, they were excited for her visit, and were in awe of her once she arrived.

Avalon loved Alexis so much that she even helped push her on the swing. (Yes, my daughter is wearing a diaper and a fleece jacket. Is that an issue?)
