Totally Tubular

Well, the antibiotics did not work to clear up Waylon's ear infection, which he has apparently had totally unbeknownst to us for a long time. It was actually a relief to learn it wasn't working because neither Aaron nor I could see/hear any dramatic changes in Waylon's speech or receptive language skills. All of that changed on Monday.
We had an appointment with the pediatric ENT last Thursday (10/18) and were told he needed tubes. On Monday we braved gazillion-mile-per-hour winds to take him to the Surgery Center. We arrived at 7:15am and were out of there by 8:30a.m. Just before surgery they tried to give Waylon some medicine that was supposed to cause short-term amnesia so he wouldn't be upset being taken away. Despite assurances from the nurse that she had her "ways" to get babies to take meds, our Bubba proved her wrong. He ended up with medicine everywhere but in his mouth. Apparently a little slipped by and he got whoozy, but when the nurse took him away for surgery he was screaming and crying. As you can imagine, Aaron and I did not take it well. They warned us that our sweet little guy was going to be "grumpy" when he came out of anasthesia, and 15 minutes later we learned they were right. However, it was more like a crazed, maniac, alien had jumped into Waylon's body as he cried, kicked, pushed, and whaled like we were torturing him. Luckily he fell asleep as soon as he was in the car and slept for 3 hours. When he woke up he was doing great and that day we could tell a noticeable difference in his speech.
Waylon is attempting to say a lot more words, and we've noticed a slight improvement in his pronunciation. He was already doing a lot better following instructions so its been a joy to experience our new little guy. We also started infant stimulation therapy this week, and the therapist thought he did great and will be progressing to speech therapy very soon.
