Memorial Day Weekend in Catalina

I am the Judge Advocate for the Fourth of July Yacht Club, which meant that I was supposed to assist with the party hosted by the officers on Memorial Day weekend. Although Memorial Day can be cold in Catalina, Aaron and I decided to take our chances and take the kids over for a quick, 48-hour trip. We stayed on Grandma and Grandpa's boat, which is wonderful, but also scary with two toddlers that move quickly. We had to be vigilant. We spent most of our waking hours ashore with lots of digging at the beach, at the playground, and in the sandbox at FJYC. Waylon loved Catalina even more this year since he realized it means lots of junk food, playing, pinatas, and staying up late. What more could you want?

Avalon (and her pack n play) had the master stateroom to themselves. It turned out to be a fun play area for both kids while I tried to unpack.
LOTS of digging. Avalon enjoys her first dig just after breakfast.

Not sure what he is saying, but it looks important.

Thank goodness for sand toys!
Mmmmm...dirt
Nice family photo in the gravel pit. Yes, gravel is the groundcover of choice for the Isthmus playground.
Avalon and daddy enjoying the cool Catalina weather. Notice the little red schoolhouse in the background. Its a real school (yes, one room) where all of the kids from Two Harbors attend for Kindergarden through 8th grade.

Waylon was telling us quite the animated story.

Waylon was thrilled to be back on "his" boat.

One of the best things about Catalina...ice cream!

Avalon tolerated a bath in the boat's sink.

Uncle Matt joined the fun in Catalina, and really helped us with kiddo management.
We took the boat back to Redondo Beach. Luckily, Avalon slept for the entire crossing. Waylon split his time between sitting with daddy at the helm and cuddling with Avalon and I, until...
He fell asleep just before we got to Redondo.

Aaron brings the boat into the harbor.
